Exposure Compensation of Canon PowerShot

Although different metering modes can be used in a variety of lighting conditions, and Canon PowerShot digital cameras provide us 3 different ways of metering, wrong exposure can happen all the time. Therefore, you, as a photographer, are responsible to preview your shot. If the shot got incorrect exposure, then, take another shot with exposure value (EV) or Exposure compensation adjusting.

The exposure compensation is used for achieving the exposure you want. Sometime cameras give you under exposed (too dark) shots. Sometime you get over exposed (too bright). The EV setting is there to correct those issues.

If you found your shot is too dark, you may want to increase the EV or, in other words, use the high number of exposure compensation (more than 0). In contrast, if the shot is too bright or overexposed, just reduce the number of exposure compensation (less than 0). Normally, the PowerShot camera allows us to set the EV from -2 to 2.

Note that the exposure compensation setting is unavailable in PowerShot under the Auto mode.
